This week in Salem was all a buzz with the pomp and circumstance of the swearing in ceremony, the Governor’s Inauguration speech and training for all the newly elected officials and their staff.
It is always nice to see old friends and catch up on their news. Since we have over one third of the House turning over this year – we have many new friends to meet and greet. The photographer caught me giving a welcome back hug to Rep. Val Hoyle, Eugene and Rep. Shemia Fagan, Clackamas. Just working across the aisle a bit!
Monday afternoon we had a floor session to read the bills that have been filed pre-session. The House alone had 59 pages – both sides of bills already on the books – just a few over 800. I understand the Senate had just over 500. I am not too surprised with their content https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2014R1/2015-01-12
If you want to review the proposed legislation click on the link and go to House First Readings. Probably should pour yourself something to drink and settle in for a comfy evening of reading.
The Governor presented a fairly usual speech stating some of the issues he wants to work on - if you would like to watch the procedural event and the Governor’s speech here is the link: https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/citizen_engagement/Pages/Legislative-Video.aspx
